Over 1 billion people use Instagram every month, and its estimated that 80% of those users follow brands and business accounts. It’s no wonder people have started taking advantage of advertising and marketing using this platform! Instagram has taken notice of this too, and added new ways for businesses to reach even more people. They do this through the Explore tab.

The Explore Tab on instagram was created to show users content that the Instagram algorithm thinks they might enjoy. For example, if you follow any dog accounts, the explore tab will likely show you more videos of dogs! Awesome, right? This is also a great feature for businesses. Users who are already interested in a product you offer will see your posts organically through this tab, and have a chance to connect with your brand.

It doesn’t stop there! Instagram recently added two new advertising opportunities specifically for businesses, conveniently incorporated into the same Explore page.

#1 – The Shop Tab

Instagram is making it easier than ever for users to purchase products from their favorite brands. They do this through the Shop Tab. The Shop Tab shows users specific products that they might be interested in, and allows them to filter categories to fit what they may be looking for. It’s like online shopping, custom made for each specific user!

Once a user clicks on an image they like, it shows them their purchasing options, along with the price. This will then direct the user to your website, where they can make their final purchase. This process makes it incredibly simple for business to get their products in front of the eyes of their target market, and simple for users to make a purchase they’ll love!

#2 – Advertisements on the Explore Page

In addition to showing your posts organically on the Explore page in hopes that potential clients see you, Instagram recently released that they’re going to offer paid advertising space on this page. This means that while a user is scrolling through the Explore page looking for new content, you can pay to put your content right in front of them! Just like other Instagram ads, these ads will be labeled as sponsored posts and may even contain a ‘Shop Now’ button at the bottom.

Explore Page ads have started appearing on June 26th, 2019. They’ll continue to have a slow roll out over the next few months, and will soon be a fully integrated piece of the platform.

Over half of Instagram users use the Explore page on a regular basis. Instagram expects that number to continue rising as they continue to add new features to this page. It’s no wonder they’ve decided to place an emphasis on marketing on this page – and you should too!
